Considering a Memory Stick What are its special features?

Memory Stick PRO-HG

Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo

Memory Stick PRO-HG™ is designed for high-speed data transfer based on Memory Stick PRO™ format technology to support the growth of products that record large amounts of data, such as high megapixel digital cameras and high-definition camcorders. This media was co-developed by Sony and SanDisk.

High-speed Interface

While only serial interfaces and 4-bit parallel interfaces are supported in Memory Stick PRO™ format, an 8-bit parallel interface has been added to the Memory Stick PRO-HG™ format. By increasing the maximum interface clock frequency from 40MHz to 60MHz, theoretical transfer rate of 480Mbps (60MB/s) is achieved, which is three times faster than the Memory Stick PRO™ format.

Minimum write speed

The minimum write speed of 120Mbps (15MB/s)* at 8bit parallel transfer and 40Mbps (5MB/s)* at 4-bit parallel transfer is guaranteed.

*When used in combination with an optimized compatible device.

Connectivity with Memory Stick PRO compatible devices

Since the Memory Stick PRO-HG™ format is an extension of the Memory Stick PRO™ format, Memory Stick PRO-HG™ media can be used with both Memory Stick PRO-HG™ and Memory Stick PRO™ compatible devices*.

  • * When Memory Stick PRO-HG™ media is used with a Memory Stick PRO™ compatible device, the media works as Memory Stick PRO™ media.

Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo

Combination with Memory Stick Duo ExpessCard Adaptor

Combination of Memory Stick PRO-HG™ and Memory Stick Duo™ ExpressCard™ Adaptor can achieve high-speed data transfer of 240Mbps (30MB/s). This allows one hour (3.6 GB) of data recorded by a Memory Stick™ "Handycam" to be transferred to a PC in approximately two minutes.

Transfer speed was achieved when recording 922MB file right after the media was fully formatted. Actual data transfer speed varies upon the measurement conditions.

High-speed continuous shooting made possible by Memory Stick PRO-HG. α700 makes shooting a whole new experience.

α (alpha) DLSR-A700 + Memory Stick PRO-HG™, this combination offers more comfortable high-speed continuous shooting. And, the media allows for large-capacity high-resolution image data to be transferred to a PC at high speed. Naturally, you can also enjoy your beautiful images, just as they are, on PSP™.

Amazing continuous shooting speed! Feel the excitement.

Newly mounted in the α700, a "BIONZ" processing engine. This is the key to the high performance of the α700, allowing data-rich picture information to be processed at high speeds. Combined with the Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™, they work in concert to maximize their potential, capturing every moment of the moving subject, sharply and beautifully.

  • * The actual speed may differ from the images shown.

Three reasons why the Memory Stick PRO-HG with the α700 is more fun!

High-speed continuous shooting
Shooting continuously 5 frames per second for 30 seconds and up to 160 shots. With a shooting speed that never drops, you won't miss capturing the moment you're after. Shooting has never been more comfortable.
*Shooting in the JPEG/L/Fine mode
High-speed transfer
A high-resolution image contains a huge amount of data and it takes time to transfer it to a PC. But with the Memory Stick PRO-HG™, you can transfer 200 still images recorded in RAW, approximately 3.6GB, to a PC in about 120 seconds.
*With the use of the Memory Stick Duo™ ExpressCard™ adaptor
Playback on PSP
You can play back the images recorded in JPEG on PSP™. You can easily use PSP™ to show photos to your children soon after shooting them or to verify the images on a larger LCD.
*The image on PSP™ is composite.
