Q1．Besides storing video game data, what other ways can I use Memory Stick Duo media with the PSP™ system?: A1．You can enjoy digital photos (JPEG format, etc) from your digital camera or camera-equipped mobile phone, music files in ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) and MP3 formats and video images in MP4-compliant Memory Stick Video Format (recorded by using an MPEG-4 or MPEG-4 AVC video codec). Q2．What type of Memory Stick media can I use with the PSP™ system?: A2．You can use Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick Duo media. (Sony media has been tested for optimal performance with the PSP™ system.)

Q3．Is there Memory Stick Duo media specially packaged as a PSP™ system accessory?: A3．Yes, a specially packaged Memory Stick Duo media is available. For more information, visit the product information page of the Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong website.

Q4．What happens if I remove the Memory Stick Duo media from my PSP™ system when it is playing?: A4．Data may be damaged if you remove the Memory Stick Duo media, unplug the device or enter sleep mode while the Memory Stick Duo access indicator is on. If it is necessary to have more capacity, however, you can remove the Memory Stick Duo media as long as data writing or reading is not in progress.

Q5．What OS is required on my PC to transfer video images, photos and music data directly to the PSP™ system via a USB interface?: A5．An OS that supports USB Mass Storage Class, such as Windows XP or Mac OS X (V10.3), is required.

Video Images

Q1．How can I create video images for playback on my PSP™ system?: A1．Video images stored on a Windows PC can be converted into PSP™ -compatible files using "Image Converter 3” software (optional). For further information about the "Image Converter 3” video conversion software, click here.

Q2．Where can I purchase “Image Converter 3” software?: A2．Users who already have "Image Converter 2" or "Image Converter 2 Plus" can update to "Image Converter 3". For details, click here.

Q3．What is MPEG-4 AVC?: A3．A new video codec (compressor/decompressor) standardized by ITU-T and ISO, it is synonymous with H.264. With a compression ratio approximately twice that of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC delivers improved video quality without the need to increase the bit rate.

Q4．Does conversion take the same time regardless whether AVC or MPEG-4 is used?: A4．The higher the compression ratio, the more time is required for complex data calculation. With MPEG-4, it takes about 120 minutes to convert 120-minute video data. AVC requires approximately 1.5 times longer than MPEG-4, although the actual time depends on CPU performance and other specifications.

Q5．Using a Macintosh computer with Mac OS, can I create video files that can be played on my PSP™ system?: A5．“Image Converter 3 ” is not compatible with the Mac OS. Q1．What Memory Stick media do you recommend for listening to music on the PSP™ system?: A1．You can use both Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick Duo media. (Sony media has been tested for optimal performance with the PSP™ system.) When recording ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) format music files, it is necessary to use Memory Stick PRO Duo media or Memory Stick Duo media with MagicGate copyright protection technology.
* In order to play ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) format music files recorded on compatible Memory Stick media, the PSP™ system software must be updated to Version 2.00 or later. Q2．How can I transfer music files stored on my PC to Memory Stick PRO Duo or Memory Stick Duo media for enjoyment on my PSP™ system?: A2．Software such as SonicStage can be used to transfer ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) and MP3 format music files to Memory Stick PRO Duo or Memory Stick Duo media. Q3．Can I record ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) format music files on Memory Stick PRO Duo media for playback on the PSP™ system?

A3．Yes, you can. With the use of SonicStage 3.2 or higher, you can record ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) format music files on Memory Stick PRO Duo media. You can also play these music files on a PSP™ system incorporating system software version 2.00 or later.

*In order to use Sonic Stage, it is first necessary to purchase the Sony "MSAC-US30" or "MSAC-US40" MagicGate-compatible Memory Stick USB reader/writer. Then your SonicStage can be updated to Ver. 4.3 via the Support page. To purchase the "MSAC-US30" or "MSAC-US40", click here.

Q4．What types of music files can be played back on the PSP™ system?: A4．ATRAC3plus (48/64/96/128/160/192/256/320kbps), ATRAC3 (66/105/132kbps), MP3, MP4 and WAVE files.

Q5．Can I connect my PSP™ system directly to my PC and check out songs recorded in the ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) format?: A5．No, currently this is not possible using SonicStage or OpenMG Jukebox software.

Q6．Is it possible to check out music files recorded in the ATRAC3plus (including ATRAC3) format onto Memory Stick Duo media using a Macintosh computer?: A6．No, it is not possible.

Q1．I want to view my digital photos on my PSP™ system using Memory Stick media. What media do you recommend?: A1．Both Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo media can be used.
